Cocoabeans Pie Crust Mix

Cocoabeans Pie Crust Mix

Let's talk about the Super Easy Pie Mix. Great for sweet or savoury pies.

YIELD: 1 deep dish 9" pie - top and bottom OR 18 - 3" tarts OR several smaller pies.

INGREDIENT OPTIONS:

This mix is by far the easiest and flakiest pie crust mix I've ever used. Our recipe at the bakery is to add 1/2 cup butter/substitute, 1/2 cup coconut oil and 1/2 cup water.

Not everyone uses coconut oil so we did some experimenting. Our mix WORKS using:

1 cup of butter OR

1 cup of shortening (we used Tenderflake Lard) OR

1 cup of butter substitute.

ROLLING OUT YOUR DOUGH: I like to roll it between parchment paper - I can get it thin and don't require any extra flour. After it's rolled I pop it into my pan to shape. If it breaks - just piece it back together - no one will know.

BLIND BAKE: for cream pies/tarts - use a fork to poke holes all around the bottom and sides of your pie crust and place in the oven at 375 deg. for as long as your recipe calls. Fill when cool.

BAKE WITH FILLING: No need to poke holes in your pastry - bake according to your recipe directions for sweet or savoury pies and tarts.

Make a larger family size pie

3" Tarts - freeze any you don't use

Mushroom Pot Pie

3" Quiche Tartlets

FREEZE: any left over dough in a sealable freezer bag to use later - up to 3-4 months - thaw and re-use.

The great thing about our pie crust mix is you can't overwork it. You will always get the same result no matter how many times you roll and re-roll.

Order your mix online, purchase at Cocoabeans or check your favourite Vita Health, Safeway or Sobeys for the mixes.
